The Cyberspace Administration of China has introduced a draft proposal that will enforce stringent rules on AI-generated content labeling. These Chinese regulations on AI content aim to ensure that all digitally created material is marked, maintaining transparency across online platforms.
If adopted, the regulations will mandate that China's internet platforms mark all AI-generated material with visible logos and embed metadata in AI-generated content to ensure proper identification. This requirement applies to text, image, video, and audio files posted online.

For audio content, the draft specifies that a voice prompt must notify listeners at the start and end of the file, and sometimes even mid-way, indicating that the material is AI-generated. In contrast, AI-generated video content will only need visible notices at the start, end, and at relevant points in the clip.
Netizens who post AI-made content will also have responsibilities under the new rules. Users who employ AI generation tools provided by platforms must label their content accordingly. If metadata embedded in AI-generated content is missing or incomplete, China's AI content detection requirements compel platforms to analyze the file. If there's suspicion that the content was generated by AI, it must be labeled as such.
