Cozomo de'Medici Donates NFTs to LA Museum of Art

Published at: February 17, 2023

NFT collector and influencer with the pseudonym Cozomo de'Medici, have announced that they are donating 22 NFTs by 13 artists to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). These NFTs include a CryptoPunk, artwork by World of Women artist, Yam Karkai, and a piece by Artificial Intelligence artist, Claire Silver. The art will be displayed alongside physical artworks, including defining pieces by Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. De'Medici said in a Twitter thread that he hopes to "forever cement the on-chain art movement in the canon of art history."

The donation has been extremely well-received by the museum, with LACMA CEO, Michael Goven, expressing excitement at expanding the museum's art collection to include digital art. He said he is enthusiastic about continuing to highlight art and technology and is grateful to de'Medici for his forward-thinking generosity.

Many collectors and brands in the space are seemingly hoping to bridge the gap between physical and digital art; this donation follows that of Yuga Labs, who recently donated a CryptoPunk to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Larva Labs have previously donated to the same museum, gifting an Autoglyph NFT from their collection. The donations from Yuga Labs are part of their Punks Legacy Project, which also saw a donation to the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art in December.
