FIFA is shifting its NFT collection to a new blockchain that supports Ethereum. The FIFA Blockchain promises better speed, scalability, and features.
FIFA Migrates NFT Collection to Ethereum-Compatible Blockchain
FIFA is making a big move in the world of NFTs. On April 30, the organisation announced that it’s launching its very own blockchain, called the “FIFA Blockchain”. This new network is compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which means it can work with popular Ethereum-based wallets like MetaMask. The goal? Better performance, more future features, and improved scalability for FIFA’s NFT platform.
FIFA Collect NFTs Will Move from Algorand to FIFA Blockchain
FIFA's current NFT collection, FIFA Collect, is moving off the Algorand blockchain. Starting no earlier than May 20, all FIFA NFTs will begin migrating to the new FIFA Blockchain. The organization confirmed they’ll provide clear, step-by-step instructions to guide users during this transition.
If you’re holding NFTs on an Algorand wallet like Pera or Defly, you’ll need to prepare — those wallets won’t work after the migration. Instead, users will be able to use Ethereum-compatible wallets such as MetaMask or any wallet that supports WalletConnect.
No Action Needed — Yet
Right now, there’s nothing you need to do. FIFA has assured collectors that they’ll be informed when it’s time to act. Any listed FIFA NFTs will automatically appear on the new blockchain — unless you delist them before the migration starts.
FIFA’s Growing Push Into Web3 and NFT Gaming
This move signals FIFA’s growing interest in NFTs, Web3 gaming, and digital collectibles. FIFA first launched its NFT collectibles ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, partnering with blockchain firm Modex.
And that’s not all. In November 2024, FIFA joined forces with blockchain game developer Mythical Games to launch FIFA Rivals — a free-to-play football game for Android and iOS. A full release is expected in summer 2025, with a pre-release coming this May. Players will be able to build football clubs and challenge others in real time.
According to Mythical Games CEO John Linden, FIFA Rivals could bring in over 100 million players, especially since their NFL Rivals game already attracted over 6 million users.
Why This Matters
FIFA isn’t just experimenting with crypto and blockchain anymore — they’re building a solid digital ecosystem around sports, gaming, and NFTs. By launching their EVM-compatible blockchain, they’re taking full control over performance, scalability, and user experience.
