Google is Pushing AI Even Further into Search with AI Overviews and a New 'AI Mode'

Unlike traditional AI chatbots, this one is built specifically for search, so it can pull in real-time data and interact directly with the web.

Want to try it out? Right now, AI Mode is only available to users who sign up for Google One AI Premium. Even then, you have to enable it through the Labs section in Search. If it takes off, though, we can expect Google to roll it out to a wider audience soon.

Robbie Stein, a VP on Google’s Search team, says AI overviews are already changing search behavior. “People are asking more complex questions—things that might have been harder to find answers for before.” And with the introduction of Gemini 2.0, Google is making its AI responses even more powerful, especially for topics like coding, math, and logical reasoning.
