On September 5, Mastercard announced the launch of a new crypto debit card in Europe, allowing users to spend Bitcoin and other digital assets directly from self-custodial wallets. Mastercard Partners with Mercuryo

The Spend crypto debit card is a result of a collaboration between Mastercard and Europe-based crypto payments provider Mercuryo. With this euro-denominated debit card, users can pay for goods and services at over 100 million merchants across the Mastercard network. The non-custodial crypto debit card provides a convenient solution for users to spend Bitcoin and other digital assets safely.

As crypto payments continue to gain momentum worldwide, the integration with Mercuryo enables users to spend crypto directly from self-custodial wallets. This further boosts crypto adoption within traditional finance, building on Mastercard’s previous pilot of a crypto debit card with MetaMask in August.

Fees and Multi-Chain Support

The Spend crypto debit card offers multi-chain support, allowing users to pay with Ethereum, Solana, and Injective. This flexibility makes it easier for users to spend across multiple supported chains.

While the card offers numerous advantages, it also comes with fees. The card has a €1.6 issuance fee and a €1 monthly maintenance fee. Additionally, Mercuryo will charge users a 0.95% withdrawal fee for cash transactions.

The Mastercard Mercuryo crypto card is a major development for users looking to spend crypto at over 100 million merchants, driving the adoption of cryptocurrency for everyday transactions.
