Metaplex and Magic Eden, two of the biggest Solana ecosystem players, are battling it out on Twitter. Metaplex posted a tweet claiming that Magic Eden was attempting a coordinated effort alongside @redacted_j, a former Metaplex developer, to take over control of the NFT token standard for the Solana ecosystem.
Naturally, Magic Eden denied these accusations, stating that their goal is to decentralize the standard for the sake of the overall ecosystem. They also said that they would rather work with Metaplex to create "an immutable, non-commercial standard" on web3 that would support creators. Magic Eden also stated their concern that Metaplex has “god mode” level of control over how the NFT token standard works, which it manipulates for the benefit of its governance token holders.
The debate is ongoing.
