NFT God's Crypto Wallet Drained

Published at: January 20, 2023

A crypto and NFT influencer who goes by the name NFT God has shared with his followers that all accounts tied to their name have been hacked and their wallets drained. These personal accounts included email, Twitter, discord, and substack, despite the use of two-factor authorization. NFT God shared a series of tweets addressing what happened, saying that their "entire digital livelihood was violated" and that they lost " a life-changing amount" of their assets and net worth.

NFT God said he clicked on a sponsored ad link on Google to stream video games instead of using an official website and it wasn't until hours later, after a series of phishing tweets were posted by the attackers to NFT God's accounts, that he realized his wallet and other accounts had been compromised. Phishing emails were also sent via Substack to 16,000 subscribers.

Using blockchain data, we can see that multiple NFTs were taken from the account, including a Mutant Ape Yacht Club, worth around $27,000. The attacker used multiple wallets and a crypto exchange to transfer the stolen assets into unknown cryptocurrencies. Unfortunately, this isn't the only scam to happen in the crypto and NFT community through downloading malicious malware in Google ads.

It's important to remember that even when we are being vigilant and trying to stay safe, hacking can still happen and it's nothing to be ashamed of. There are web3 communities of mental health experts if you need support.
