Trump's NFTs Hit a Rough Patch: Trading Slumps

Published at: April 16, 2024

Donald Trump's First NFT Collection Sees Big Drop in Trading

After first getting into cryptocurrencies and bitcoin, Donald Trump released his first set of digital trading cards called NFTs in late 2022. But not many people seem interested in buying them anymore.

New data from The Block Data Dashboard says that even though some NFTs are still being traded, it's way less than during the big crypto craze in 2021.

Not Doing Well

OpenSea, where people can buy and sell NFTs, says there have been no transactions in the last week. And the number of trades for the first group of 45,000 NFTs hilariously shows Trump has dropped by 99% in the last month.

Even though Ethereum, a type of cryptocurrency, is still popular for trading NFTs and made about $489 million in March, interest in Trump's NFTs has gone down.

Things aren't looking good for Trump's NFTs, as he's facing some legal trouble. He's accused of doing something wrong with company records. This has made even fewer people want to buy his digital cards.

But there's a little bit of hope. A newer set of Trump's digital cards has done a bit better in trading, even though it's still down by 57% in the last month. This new collection even offers the chance to have dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, happening on May 8 this year.

Anzali data reveals that Ethereum NFT sales reached $489 million in March, with Ethereum being the top network for NFT trading in terms of USD value.

As Trump, who is running for president again, faces a criminal trial for allegedly tampering with company records to conceal payments, interest in his NFTs has dwindled.

Despite a 57% decrease in trade volumes over the past month, the second edition of Trump's digital trading cards has performed relatively better than the first, according to OpenSea. A new collection recently dropped, offering the chance to win a dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, scheduled for May 8 this year.
