Elon Musk has been making waves at Twitter since taking over the social media platform in late October 2022. He has most recently caused a stir at the company through his message to Twitter employees asking them to commit to "long hours at high intensity," or leave by Thursday 17th November.
These actions have seen a large number of staff taking the second option, which, according to cointelegraph, includes 3 months severance pay and has resulted in the temporary closing of the company's offices. Musk has previously been ruthless in his firing of employees as he reportedly let go of half the workforce, including top employees, earlier this month. The recent departures call attention to the reluctance of the remaining 3,000 employees to stay at a company with a harsh and changing work culture which places emphasis on intense work and grueling hours.
Reuters have reviewed over 110 Tweets from employees across four continents announcing their departures, with 15 announcing their decision to stay at the company. They also reported that over 500 employees have written their goodbye messages in an internal chat tool for the platform.Musk himself has tweeted that he isn't worried as "the best people are staying."
